Entry Level Graphic Design Jobs Description and Requirements

Entry level graphic design jobs can be found through internet, newspaper, and associations and through your college or university’s career center. Freelance computer graphic design jobs can be found through online freelance sites, and through door to door sales. Design opportunities are many. You may work in print advertising, film or television media (pre-visualization, production, post-production, or distribution), and even in publishing.

You will need at least an Associate degree in commercial art with Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, photography, sales and public speaking knowledge. Programming skills are a plus, because they can get your foot in the door.

If you find it difficult to find an entry level graphic design job, you may start with interning or freelancing. There are some advantages. You will be able to develop your portfolio and gain valuable experience with smaller jobs. In addition, when you sign a client, you are able to communicate directly with the decision maker, and present your best work. Freelance graphic design work sometimes pays more depending on the project and the location. The disadvantage is that you will be in business for yourself, and your success depends on your own marketing efforts. What will set you apart is your ability to create images for companies that meet the client’s vision of their brand and that represent them in the best possible way.

Graphic design careers are expected to be one of the largest and fastest growing job markets through 2014. Most demand will be in computer graphic design, website design, and computer animation design. Competition will continue to be steep, which is why you should come to the entry level job with as much education as possible.
